The art of boxing in the East and the West
Combat and fighting arts have played important roles in the history of all nations, and it became a special cultural phenomenon in both the East and the West – but in different ways. In the East it was intertwined with the prevailing religions and approaches to life. In the West they focused more on efficiency, practicality and virtue.
If we look at any combat systems, we see great stories, legends, fantastic abilities, interesting theories, and deep, deep knowledge about the physical and mental skills of human beings.
Bruce Lee was an obsessive researcher of martial arts, regardless of where they originated. As he said:
“Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.”
